i.

understand the hyphen between african and american is the ship that links you to two lands.

ii.

they may have tried to make us adjectives but it’s on us to define and re-define who we are and what being black means.

iii.

those on the outs will always try to imitate. we can fight tooth and nail to stop it but it’s more important to focus on what is in our control. and that’s rebuilding our stolen legacy.

iv.

don’t undermine yourself by thinking that loving who you are — the color of your skin, the tight curl and magic of your hair, the rhythm in your bones, the brilliance of your brain — is an affront to non-black people. being pro-black doesn’t mean you are anti anyone else. it means you are proud of your heritage.

v.

whether you’re the only or you’re in the majority, you belong in every room you step foot in. by standing in your power, your roots, your crown, you being you becomes the how.
